When People Won't Listen

Recently, a friend told me about a juice detox she was going to try at home. It basically consisted of making fruit water with freshly squeezed fruit juice. Not sure where she heard about it and thought, “This is sure to solve all my problems!” Nothing wrong with fresh fruit water, right? The only problem is that this friend is not doing it to maintain already good health. She wants to lose weight, has horrible menstrual cycles (when she has them) and emotional instability (sadness, often tearful, irritable). In addition, she is on very strong and side effect-producing prescription meds for depression, which will get her hormones even more out of whack in a short amount of time. I think somewhere down the road she would even like to have a baby (the health of your pregnancy begins before conception!). Knowing all of this, while it may seem like a normal life to you so far, I know through my expertise (and common sense) that it is a disaster waiting to happen. Let me try to explain. While consuming fresh fruit water is great, it is no way, shape or form going to provide a therapeutic detoxification to your body and all of its organs. It can take years to accumulate all the junk inside of us – pesticides, herbicides, bacteria, viruses, parasites, mold, mycotoxins, other humans’ dead cells (yes, gross, but…) and the list goes on. There is no way that doing a DIY fresh fruit water detox is going to actually detox anything. {Companies spend a lot of money on marketing to get you to buy their prettily packaged products.} Now it could potentially help to gently cleanse the kidneys and liver. That is not the same as a detox. Fresh fruit water, in fact, should be drunk first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach, and it should be warm. With all the sludge that has accumulated on the average liver, even a daily dose of this water will not do much – hate to burst your bubble! If that was the case, everyone would be at their perfect weight, with perfect hair and skin and a healthy, bangin’ bikini-ready body – all adding up to an amazing life in my eyes!

So, is fresh fruit water good for you? Absolutely? Just know your purpose for drinking it and know how to go about it. In this day and age, with all the toxins and chemicals in the air, food and water supply, you have to use common sense about the purchases you make and how your drinks or meals are prepared. We have gotten so far away from fresh, simple, whole foods. Many people don’t know what whole foods look like while they are being grown in a garden… In this case, is the fruit organic or conventional? Is the water tap, bottled, filtered, purified, or alkaline? Bottled does not mean better, and in some cases can be as harmful as tap water – that is for another post. Do you know anything about pH balance? Do you remember the pH scale from science class in middle school? If your water is not alkaline, it is acidic, which will make you sick, maybe not immediately after consuming it, but for sure in the long term. You know that pain you keep getting in your side, or those allergies that come back every season? Not normal, contrary to popular belief. No disease can survive in an alkaline environment that is balanced. Disease, will, however, survive and thrive in an acidic environment. So if you consume tap or bottled water, soda (same pH as car battery acid), juice cocktails, carbohydrates, conventional breads, pastries, alcohol and such, then you are those foods. You really are what you eat – you are a result of the acidic, pesticide-laden, mineral depleting, cold, flu, arthritis, autoimmune, eczema, bronchitis, diabetes, mold, and weight-gain causing foods. I’m so glad I got that off my chest!

You may be wondering what this post has to do with its title. Having said all this, the friend doing the fresh fruit water detox knows what I do for a living – help people heal naturally without drugs. Why is that so hard for some to grasp? I actually do know a thing or two. So, why won’t she listen to me? Not sure, but I’m not in the business of shoving information down a person’s throat. What else can I do? Absolutely nothing. Maybe when she gets sick and tired of being sick and tired she will be ready. In the meantime, her weight, hormones, thyroid, and beautiful God-given womb for carrying babies will suffer. I just hope she gets around to addressing them before it’s too late.

Just FYI, detoxification in general is absolutely necessary for life. The body cannot rebuild itself without it, period. The challenge is that detoxification means something different to each person you ask (try it). That is why it is so important to not blindly buy detox products (or any other supplements) without doing your research and knowing more about how and why you are doing it. Work with a qualified holistic healthcare professional who can assist you along the way. Yes, this may mean you have to spend some $ for the assistance. Practitioners like myself put a huge amount of time and money into building and maintaining their business. Would you rather pay now and learn lifelong information in the process or pay later with your health or life? Sad, but true – we don’t invest our money where it really counts.

Have you ever tried to help someone who just won’t listen? Share in the comments, please. I know I’m not by myself!
